Proposal to go to Public Consultation from 13th July - Make sure you have your say![]() The Council is in the process of considering the next County Development Plan for South Dublin County. South Dublin County Council’s planners have proposed for consideration a new road crossing of the River Dodder connecting Firhouse Road in the vicinity of Monalea estate with the N81 (Tallaght ByPass) at Glenview Roundabout. Reasons the planners are giving for this new road/link proposal across the Dodder: The Council’s planners say that Oldbawn Bridge is a major bottleneck …….

Another road through a green belt. Just what we need and right beside a Natomal school too, breath in those fumes children. So much for the Dodder Valley amenity.

Not sure about this proposal really. What ever happened to realigning the Knocklyon Road. This would be more important if funds are limited. The footpaths are very bad and too narrow in places, there are no cycle tracks. Improvements to the road from Orlagh roundabout to Supervalu are also badly needed. There is no footpath on one side of the road and no cycle tracks either. In light of all the school going children and pedestrians using these roads I think this should be the councils priority before they build a new road!

This seems entirely unnecessary, there is sufficient capacity on the old bawn rd and bridge. This proposed road will sever the eastern end of the park will cut through walking and cycling amenities, will materially effect the visual, audible and natural amenity. The Dodder Valley Park is in need of improvement this proposal will be a retrograde step.

This is utterly unnecessary and once again SDCC will completely ignore residential views re the zoning of the Firhouse green areas and wont stop till there is total destruction of local green amenities

Not true Alan - the planners don't decide on this because it's a Development Plan issue - your elected representatives do - so thanks for making your views known.

Clearly one arm of the council/councillors and or planners are not talking to one another. This is in total contrast to the proposed development of the grass running track and football pitch for the field in question. It also crosses over the proposed Tallaght/Ringsend cyclepath. There are more questions raised by this new proposal than answers.

Jim - thanks for that - remember it's a proposal in the DRAFT County Development Plan - it's important you make a submission and thanks for sharing your views with me.

Can residents associations send in one submission on behalf of all members or do we need to arrange for our members each to sign a letter please?

This area is marked and protected for civil amenity. Over my dead Body.

No reason for it at all. Agree wholeheartedly with the above comment regarding another road through a green area. Firhouse Road is already busy especially during school terms. The council need to rethink this as this isn't a clever idea at all.

Wow! Completely unnecessary road, there are several existing options if you want to get to or from those areas. It is a spectacularly beautiful wildlife oasis the way it is, a little gem of Firhouse, it would be a travesty to demolish it. Comments are closed.
